The emergency department has 8 beds and handles 22,000 visits annually. It is a full service unit dedicated to providing timely diagnoses of acutely life-and-limb threatening illness or injury to the community. At a minimum, there is always 1 physician, 2 registered nurses and 1 emergency medical technologist on duty. Additional physician coverage for patients with lower severity illnesses is available on weekends Friday through Sunday evenings. The work schedule for the EM physician is 12 (12 hour) shifts per month.

The medical facility is a JCAHO accredited health center providing services to a 4,400 square mile area with a population of approximately 45,000 and serves as a referral center for the western part of the Navajo and Hopi reservations. The hospital has a 73-bed capacity and provides comprehensive inpatient/outpatient services to the community. The staff of medical providers is both extensive and impressive.

This semi-desert area located in Arizona varies in elevation from 4,400 feet in the little Colorado River Valley to nearly 7,000 feet at Preston Mesa. The brightly colored canyons, the unchallenged spires and butte’s of the Grand Canyon are within a short driving time from the facility. Most of the residents are Navajo, with a small Hopi minority. The Navajo Indian Reservation is the largest reservation in the U.S. covering approximately 25,000 miles in the states of Arizona, Colorado, Utah and New Mexico. This candidate supports J1 and H1B candidates.
