Requires current AZ RN license or other compact state RN license. Current acute care experience is strongly preferred, however, new graduates will be considered on an individual basis. Must possess highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrate behaviors consistent with those identified as the hospital's service standards.
This position serves as base unit staff for the medical Coronary Care Unit. Incumbents will use specialized knowledge, judgment and nursing skills based upon the principles of biological, physical and social sciences to facilitate patient's achievement of optimum health status. Provides leadership and coordination to the healthcare team and will maintain standards of professional skills.
The Coronary Care Unit specializes in critically ill cardiac patients. The patient population includes patients with myocardial infarction, cardiac arrest, cardiac arrhythmias, and cardiogenic shock as well as overflow medical ICU patients. Extensive invasive monitoring, intra-aortic balloon pumps, multiple vasoactive IV medications, and investigational therapies are utilized.
Number of beds:
RN’s: all 12 hour shifts of 7a-7:30p and 7p-7:30a, 36 hour work week.
Staff work every third weekend and utilize self-scheduling.
Total patient care is utilized in CCU. Nursing staff is closely involved with attending physicians and house staff in planning patient care. Patient teaching is an important part of our nursing care and is initiated on admission to CCU according to our Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.
Unique features of the unit:
CCU offers a variety of experiences to the nurse who wishes to work with critical cardiac patients. Due to the activity of patients and variety of our patient population, the opportunities for growth and learning experiences are abundant. Additionally, leadership philosophy promotes participative management and facilitates an independent and professional staff. The CCU staff is part of the hospital wide code team. Each shift, one CCU RN responds to cardiac arrests within the hospital. CCU is a teaching unit covered by an in-house resident and intern on a 24 hour basis. We enjoy positive working relationships with the attending cardiologists and the cardiac fellows. The physician staff seek and respect nursing input into the planning of patient care and welcome their participation in patient rounds.
