Requires current AZ RN license or other compact state RN license. One year of acute Hemodialysis experience is required. Must possess highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrate behaviors consistent with those identified as the hospital's service standards.
These positions serve as base unit staff for the Hemodialysis/Apheresis Unit. Incumbents will use specialized knowledge, judgment and nursing skills based upon the principles of biological, physical and social sciences to facilitate patient's achievement of optimum health status. Provides leadership and coordination to the healthcare team and will maintain standards of professional skills.
The Kidney Center/Apheresis Unit is a vital component of the patient treatment system, providing acute hemodialysis or apheresis treatments on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. Our patient population encompasses all ages including pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. Our hemodialysis patients include those in acute renal failure, those newly diagnosed, hospitalized chronic renal failure patients, or transplant patients that are experiencing acute rejection episodes. Also included in our patient population are patients requiring therapeutic apheresis, neuromuscular or blood disorders, requiring Stem Cell Collections prior to Bone Marrow transplantation, and those requiring photopheresis for graft vs. host disease after Bone Marrow transplantation.
Number of beds:
11 stations, 10 beds and 1 chair
10-hour rotating shifts 7am – 5:30pm four days a week and a few twelve-hour staggered shifts three days per week, with rotating call
Staff work every other Saturday, with rotating call one Sunday per month for 12 hours,
Multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Team includes a Renal Social Worker, Renal Nutritionist, Nephrologist, Clinical Care Manager, Dialysis RN’s and Biomed technicians. Each RN is responsible for total patient care of assigned patients. ICU, on-call, pediatrics, team leading and apheresis are required for all RN’s after they have demonstrated capability to work independently.

Our continuing education program is ongoing to meet the needs or interest of the individual staff and unit, some of which are mandatory. Our teaching resources come from our staff nurses, nurse educators, and other team members.
