Qualifications:

Requires current AZ RN license or other compact state RN license. One year of L&D experience is strongly preferred, however, new graduates will be considered on an individual basis. Must possess highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrate behaviors consistent with those identified as the hospital's service standards.



All RN’s must pass basic fetal monitoring to work in L&D. Advanced fetal monitoring and Pitocin validation are required by six months employment. CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation are required.



Job Description:


This position serves as base unit staff for the medical L&D Department. Incumbents will use specialized knowledge, judgment and nursing skills based upon the principles of biological, physical and social sciences to facilitate patient's achievement of optimum health status. Provides leadership and coordination to the healthcare team and will maintain standards of professional skills.



Unit description:


Perinatal care units are committed to family centered maternity care. This L&D unit is a tertiary care unit performing nearly 7,000 deliveries per year. Our staff works with a diverse patient population – low risk, high risk and critical care obstetrical patients. We have a commitment to maintaining the mother-infant relationship as often as possible, and recover most of our normal newborns in mother’s room. Our excellent perinatology staff provide the opportunity for us to accept transport of high risk patients from the entire southwest region. We have developed members of our staff to provide critical care skills to patients requiring invasive hemodynamic monitoring. Our nursing staff assesses patients in our 14 bed triage unit. Our staff is also cross-trained for labor, recovery, post partum and newborn care for our 40 labor rooms. In addition, our nursing staff circulates cesarean sections and fetal surgeries in our 3 surgical suites.



Shifts available:
RN’s: all 12 hour shifts of 7a-7:30p and 7p-7:30a, 36 hour work week.
Staff work 3 out of 8 weekends. Staff is required to take call to cover unexpected L&D volume increases. This usually amounts to one 12 hour shift in a 4 week period.



Nursing Concept:


Labor & Delivery provides an opportunity for personnel to expand and develop their skills in perinatal nursing and to be a part of a healthy, supportive and educational birthing experience for our patients and their families.



Unique features of the unit:


We are a teaching unit with a four year OB/GYN residency program. We have 24 hour anesthesia coverage including anesthesiologists and CRNA’s. Our department’s ancillary staff include LPN’s, Health Unit Secretaries, Surgical Techs, Patient Care Assistants (provide patient care under the supervision of an RN), and L&D Techs (provide cleaning and stocking support to the unit) and Nurse Externs.
