Requires current AZ RN license or other compact state RN license. One year of Neurology or Med/Surg experience is preferred, however, new graduates will be considered on an individual basis. Must possess highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrate behaviors consistent with those identified as the hospital's service standards.
These positions serve as base unit staff for the Neurology/Neurosurgery Unit. Incumbents will use specialized knowledge, judgment and nursing skills based upon the principles of biological, physical and social sciences to facilitate patient's achievement of optimum health status. Provides leadership and coordination to the healthcare team and will maintain standards of professional skills.
This unit is a 28-bed unit offering a diverse variety of neuro-medical, neuro-surgical, and med/surg patients. The patient population includes inpatient adult and geriatric patients requiring acute care services following a stroke or surgical/non-surgical management of other neurologic problems. General medical patients may also be admitted as the need arises.
The Neurological Unit has a special emphasis for the care of stroke patients. The stroke Center provides acute care to patients experiencing ischemic/hemorrhagic stroke or transient ischemic attacks with a strong emphasis on specialized nursing care and patient education. The Stroke Center/Neuro Unit provides an interdisciplinary team approach to quality care, and embraces the philosophy of a healing environment.
Number of beds:
12-hour shifts are available.
Self scheduling provides staff members the ability to manage their own work schedule while meeting patient care needs.
A modified total patient care concept provides the nurse the opportunity for close interaction with his/her patients while at the same time having support personnel available on the unit. The RN coordinates and communicates patient care needs with the other members of the team. All staff members are considered valuable members of the team.

This unit is an exciting unit in which to practice the nursing profession. The focus on the neuro-medical and neuro-surgical patients allows the nurse to be an active member of the multidisciplinary team of nursing, OT, PT, dietary, speech, social services, home care, chaplain, psych, and physicians. The nurse/physician relationship is a cooperative and supportive one. A mutual concern for providing excellent patient care fosters a highly regarded rapport. The physicians on this unit seek and respect nursing input into the planning of patient care.
