Requires current AZ RN license or other compact state RN license. One year of Critical Care / Emergency Room experience is required. Must possess highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrate behaviors consistent with those identified as the hospital's service standards.
These positions serve as base unit staff for the Emergency Department / Trauma Center. Incumbents will use specialized knowledge, judgment and nursing skills based upon the principles of biological, physical and social sciences to facilitate patient's achievement of optimum health status. Provides leadership and coordination to the healthcare team and will maintain standards of professional skills.
The Emergency Center is one of the five “Level One” Trauma Centers in the Phoenix area and averages in excess of 70,000 annual patient visits.
Number of beds:
45 beds – 40 Emergent Care and 5 Trauma Bays
8, 10, and 12 hour shifts
Most with every other weekend off
The high acuity of the patients provides a wide range of diagnosis, both adult and pediatric. An all-professional nursing staff places an emphasis on patient/family teaching and primary nursing care. Nursing assignments rotate through all patient care areas: triage, major (multiple injured and critically ill), and minor (vast range of less critical patients). A multidisciplinary team, which includes orthopedic technicians, chaplains, social workers, physicians, crisis counselors, Spanish translators, Unit Educator and nurses, provides quality care in the Emergency Center. Leadership for the Emergency Center is provided by a Director, Assistant Director with 24 hour responsibility and Clinical Managers assigned each shift.
Unique features of the unit:
The Emergency Center is a unique teaching environment with intern and resident physicians, nursing students, and paramedic students rotating through on a regular basis. Individual recognition through CEN and CCRN are also encouraged. Community involvement is an important aspect with monthly CPR classes, public service lectures and displays provided by the E.C. Staff. Involvement with the government agency, Consumer Product Safety Division, provides data to improve safety for the public and makes suppliers more accountable for their products. Emergency Center medical and nursing staff provides medical support for various sporting events, such as: NASCAR, ASU, and Cardinals football games. The Emergency Trauma Center is a base station for Phoenix Paramedic Units, AirEvac, MedAire, and National Park Service Paramedics.
