Requires current AZ RN license or other compact state RN license. One year of Antepartum, Post Partum and/or GYN surgery experience is strongly preferred, however, new graduates will be considered on an individual basis. Must possess highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrate behaviors consistent with those identified as the hospital's service standards.
These positions serve as base unit staff for the Antepartum Unit, Post Partum Unit, and GYN Surgery Units. Incumbents will use specialized knowledge, judgment and nursing skills based upon the principles of biological, physical and social sciences to facilitate patient's achievement of optimum health status. Provides leadership and coordination to the healthcare team and will maintain standards of professional skills.
The Antepartum unit is comprised of three 12 bed units. Each unit has 8 provate and 2 semi-private rooms. The most frequent diagnoses associated with hospitalization include premature labor, PIH, placenta previa/abruption, PPROM, multiple gestations, diabetes, and hyperemesis. Some of our patients have long-term hospitalizations and we address both the physical and psychosocial needs of the patient and family. We provide a variety of services to long-term patients including the use of laptop computers, entertainment and educational videos, books on tape, arts and crafts, a library cart and our calendar project.
The Postpartum Units are comprised of 4 newly renovated units, each with 12 beds, 8 private and 2 semi-private rooms per pod. We provide care to all cesarean sections, high risk postpartum patients, and normal vaginal deliveries. This unit has a central nursery area for procedures, i.e. lab draws and circumcisions. Couplet care is the care delivery model for postpartum. Lactation consultants are available to facilitate breastfeeding and teach the nursing staff. We have a MILC team which is comprised of staff members who have additional training as lactation counselors to provide assistance to breastfeeding mothers when a lactation consultant is not available.
The GYN/Female surgical unit opened in January, 2003. This is a 12 bed unit comprised of 6 private and 3 semi-private rooms and an exam room. The population on this unit is primarily surgical GYN post-operative patients, i.e. hysterectomy, bladder sling, AP repair. The average daily census on the unit is 10. The general staffing pattern is for 2 RN’s and 1 HUS/PCA for 12 hour shifts. When the census drops on this unit, the staff may float to med/surg or to postpartum or antepartum. This unit maintains a small community feel in a large facility and the staff on this unit does self scheduling.
RN’s: all 12 hour shifts of 7a-7:30p and 7p-7:30a, 36 hour work week
Staff work 3 out of 8 weekends.
The Women & Infants Nursing Service is dedicated to providing healthcare in a professional, safe and cost effective manner. We believe that nursing encompasses patient care, education, research, and professional growth. We work in a collaborative manner with dietary, lab, pharmacy, and medical personnel to meet the needs of our patient population. Clinical competence, interpersonal skills and customer service are all essential components to be successful on this unit.
Unique features of the unit:
We are a teaching facility and have residents and medical students on our unit. We also provide a teaching environment for several of the local university nursing students. We have a large and active group of Perinatologists. This group provides some of our continuing education activities as they enjoy teaching and working with the nursing staff. In addition to the Perinatologists, we work closely with our OB case managers and OB social workers to meet the needs of our patients.
